July
24th, 2006 - After a positive weekend concluded with a solid
double win at Mugello, Alessandro Zanardi reduces considerably the gap
with the leader of the "Campionato Italiano Superturismo".
The dominination of the Italian driver was evident since Saturday afternoon
when he took the pole position and then the victory in race1 remaining
in the lead from the start until the chequered flag.
The positive performance continued on Sunday when Alessandro won also a
shortened race 2 being necessary to bring out the safety car after a
strong hailstorm covered the circuit in a thick layer of ice.
"It was a perfect weekend", Alessandro said
"we knew that BMW 320si would have been very competitive on
this track and that would have been possible to bet on both victories.
We evolved the set up of the car throughout the weekend optimizing the
performance of the tyres since were easily over temperature. In race 2
the balance of the car was perfect so I was able to push and put a gap
between me and the driver behind.
Safety car near the end of race 2 was necessary, it would have been
impossible going on under the storm raging over Mugello in that
moment".
Very positive the debut of Kristian Ghedina with the touring cars, the
former skier and nice friend of Alessandro obtained the 8th place in
race 1 and the 5th place in race 2.
