THE CHURCH CASTELS OF
TRANSyLVANIA
8-Day Journey
Who knows
Transylvania,
can not forget the style of the German church castles. The churche castles,
which were constructed in the 14th Century, have a strong attraction for the
west european guests. For little groups of until 15 persons, there are
possibilities to overnight in the former residences of the priests and that
gives us the possibility of earning more about this terrific country.
1st Day Bukarest - Medias
Arrival an the airport
Bucharest;
Meeting with the Romanian guide and driving with the modern mini bus to Medias
D/O/B H. Central
2nd Day Medias – Ighis
The route offers very beautiful landscapes over the entire
Tarnava
Valley.
From the mountain nod you’ll see the "large valley" and from there you can see
already the churche castle Ighis. Although the church has been constructed in
the 14th Century, its inside was renovated in the baroque time. We’ll overnight
in the former priest home that has been transformed into a modern guests house.
The warm dinner is also waiting for us.
3rd Day Ighis -Motis -Ighis
Having the intrance of the home of the priest behind us, you’ll turn right and
go stright forward. After about 2 km, you’ll see a watering place. The way goes
behind two hills, to the left. After that the way goes into the forest and then
to the right steeply to the top. From the comb you’ll have two possibilities to
arrive in Motis. The right way leads directly down into the village. The left
way leads out of the forest, over meadows down into a ravine. It gives us a very
pretty view over the entire churche castle, that has been built here in a late
gothic style. After visiting the churche castle, we can go back by foot to the
village Ighis, or we can drive with the minibus, that is waiting for us at the
churche castle. Dinner and overnight in the vicarage Ighis.
4th Day. Ighis -Mosna
Having the intrance of the home of the priest behind us, we will go to the right
and then until we reach the bridge, where we ’ll go to the right. The way rises
up the valley. The width way ends at the forest edge. When we'll reach the first
intersection, we ’ll go then to the left in direction Mosna. The way passes at
orchards and fields until you’ll arrive in Mosna. This village was first
mentioned in 1283. The churche castle is surrounded by high walls with 5 defence
towers. Dinner and overnights in the vicarage Mosna.
5th Day. Mosna -Alma -Mosna
Best you'll leave Mosna by going parallel with the sand way in direction Pelisor.
Outside of the village, a field way branches off up to the valley. At the half
of the way, we’ll find in the reed, a source with fresh water. In short time
we’ll reach a higher ground with meadows from which we’ll have a wonderful view
over the
valley
of
Alma.
From the forest edge the way goes along the apple meadows to the village. The
village church, built in the 14th century is inside in baroque style. The
churche castle has 4 towers. On the highest one we can ascend and from there
we'll have a view over the entire valley. From
Alma
we’ll go back to Mosna or we can drive with the minibus that is waiting for us.
Dinner and overnight in the vicarage of Mosna.
6th Day. Mosna -Nemsa -Mosna
From the churche castle we’ll go first on the main street to the southern exit.
When we’ll arrive at the buffalo watering place, we’ll turn then to the left and
follow the meadows way. On this way, you bend on the left side and follow it
along a hedge until Nemsa. The churche castle of the 14th Century has
unfortunately no more defence unit since 1869. Fortunately we can see a part of
the wall paintings and the altar from the year 1520. In Nemsa, the saxon hero
Stephan Ludwig-Roth has written his entire work. We can go back to Mosna by
foot, or we can drive with the minibus which is waiting for us at the church.
Dinner and overnight in Mosna.
7th Day. Mosna -Medias
From the churche castle, the way bring us to Medias. Parallel, along the main
street we reach the accumulation lake, where a refreshing drink is waiting for
us. From here, we can go directly by foot to the hotel, or we can have short
drive with the minibus. The program could include also the churche castles from
