Final Fantasy (ファイナルファンタジー , Fainaru Fantajī ) is a series of computer and console produced by (originally ).
The first installment of the series premiered in on, , and Final Fantasy games have subsequently been for markets in, and, on numerous, including the, the, the, the, the, the, , , as well as computers and several different models of .

At approximately the same time, Square designer began work on an ambitious new fantasy role playing game for the cartridge-based Famicom, inspired in part by 's popular (known to some in the as Dragon Warrior ).
In fact, it's commonly believed that the game was named Final Fantasy because of Square and not Sakaguchi, although Sakaguchi himself has confirmed it was named because of his plans for retirement.
Either way, Final Fantasy turned out to be far from being Square's or Sakaguchi's last game.
Final Fantasy reversed Square's lagging fortunes, and became their flagship franchise.
This unusual approach to sequels has continued throughout the series, with each major Final Fantasy game introducing a new world, and a new system of gameplay.
In a way, the Final Fantasy series has been a creative showcase for Square's developers, and many elements originally introduced in the series have made their way into Square's other titles, most notably two of its other major franchises, and .

Also, as some of you may have noticed from other Final Fantasy sites, the Final Fantasy III (3) box art has been confirmed, and here it is: And in other Final Fantasy III news, Square Enix and Nintendo have confirmed there will be an official Final Fantasy III DS Lite, with the limited edition Final Fantasy III Crystal Edition game.
The DS will boast a Final Fantasy 3 look, and will only be sold with the game.

We have no idea of the meaning behind the compilation’s name, “ Fabula Nova Crystallis ” (other than it being Latin for “the new tale of the crystal”), but we can confirm that it comprises at least three titles: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII (both for the PlayStation 3) and Final Fantasy Agita XIII (for cell phones, which are apparently way popular in Japan).
Tetsuya Nomura and his teams from both and Kingdom Hearts II are working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
What’s the big deal? Er, the fact that the PlayStation 3 is getting not just one, but [at least] two Final Fantasy titles right off the bat.
