The is producing the digital yearbook, which will highlight the organizations, people and events that brought UTEP to life in the 2004-2005 academic year.. The yearbook will have chapters for events such as Greek Week, Minerpalooza, Homecoming, and football and basketball games, said Shamori Whitt, left, SGA senator-at-large.. ‘It is really sad that the high school tradition of having yearbooks is stopped at college, ” Whitt said.. “That is why at SGA we are working on a digital yearbook so that students have something to look back at and remember their time at UTEP.” UTEP used to regularly produce a yearbook, “The Flowsheet, ” which was last published in 1972.. Whitt said the SGA has not yet decided on a name for the digital yearbook.. The SGA plans to sell the digital yearbook, but a price has not yet been determined.. (Staff Photo By Shauna Wonzer) Freshman home-school students James Haire, 15, and Brooke Price, 13, normally wouldn't have a choice if they wanted to buy a yearbook.. Because their memories of their school years weren't going to be captured, they decided to take steps to ensure they would - by creating a DVD yearbook for home school students.. "We are trying to make the yearbook as comprehensive as possible and we are covering all ages/grades Pre-K to 12 grades, " according to a written account of the project.. "It developed into photo editing." Brooke, who has been home schooled since second grade, said she has missed the idea of having a yearbook.. James, home schooled since kindergarten and who also started the project by making Web pages, said this year "we definitely have a DVD yearbook." The two students said that they hope to continue the project until they are seniors and then hope others will get on board in creating a DVD of memories.

Students are more likely to chronicle the year with their own photographs rather than invest in a yearbook that they might not even be in, said Kai Landis, adviser for Ohio State Universitys yearbook.. Both Ohio State and Capital University have revived yearbook operations that were discontinued in the mid-1990s, only to find that a renewed interest didnt translate into brisk sales.. Of the nearly 40, 000 undergraduates at Ohio State, only 600 bought copies of the schools most recent yearbook, which costs as much as $60.. Some dont even know there is a yearbook, Landis said.. Theres more of an allegiance with high schools not so much of that on the college level, save much smaller universities. But even Capital, a much smaller Ohio school where students pushed for the return of the yearbook in 2004 following a six-year hiatus, found it hard to sell the books.
