. The creation of photorealistic human (or humanoid) figures in a digital environment is something that's much in demand.. In place of the virtual wooden dummies of the past, Poser is now based upon characters, photorealistic three-dimensional figures with jointed bodies that can be moved and posed into any desired posture.. Many of them are of an astonishing degree of realism; others are whimsical or specialized figures, such as dragons, trolls and an assortment of monsters variegated enough to make even Lord Voldemort chortle with joy.. Poser figures can be animated, and in the hands of a Poser expert, the results can be quite impressive.. That is, it's an environment into which you can import objects (including Poser figures), arrange them, create complex lighting for them and then render them, either as scenes complete in themselves or as input to images constructed in some other package, such as Photoshop.. The Poser figures can even be posed, just as if they were in their native environment.

Seated at the center of a room, the audience will see life-size (and larger) figures move in real time, projected onto four screens.. The figures are dancers, passing between screens, through the audience, and around an infinitely extending stage.. Then Eshkar turns to the computer to show what this raw material becomes: against a black background, dancing figures resembling spirals of smoke cavort across the monitor, performing precisely the same movements as their fleshy counterparts in the video.. So I made these spaghetti-like figures, then gave them a hand-drawn appearance by scanning in a charcoal drawing and sampling its character for my geometric forms." Kaiser adds, "It's deeply paradoxical that the sketches have the appearance of being done in a hurry, yet take weeks to make and test.
