In that sense, digital elevation model (DEM) data are sampled arrays of surface elevations in raster form.. DEMs are most commonly used to extract, model water flow or mass movement or for pure visualization purposes (3D draping).. Digital elevation models may be prepared in a number of ways, but they are frequently obtained by rather than direct .. One powerful technique for generating digital elevation models is interferometric ; two passes of a radar satellite (such as ) suffice to generate a digital elevation map tens of kilometers on a side with a resolution of around ten meters.. The SRTM30Plus dataset attempts to combine GTOPO30, SRTM and bathymetric data to produce a truly global elevation model.

Digital Surface Models (DSM)
Digital Surface Models (DSM) The datasets on this page may be used for, only.. This height model was derived using Intermap Technologies STAR-3i airborne interferometric SAR data acquisition system.. The horizontal accuracy of the height model (level GT3) is 2.5 m RMSE and vertical accuracy 3 m RMSE.. The individual buildings can be seen in the height model, so it is a surface model (DSM).. Due to the horizontal resolution (10 m) and the above mentioned RMSE values of the DSM the buildings are not modelled very well, when compared to the resolution of the Ikonos data (1 m).. the buildings are not distorted, because it has been compiled with a bare ground height model and not a surface model.

Digital Brain Atlas
A DIGITAL BRAIN ATLAS FOR SURGICAL PLANNING, MODEL DRIVEN SEGMENTATION AND TEACHING Ron Kikinis, M.D.. Thus far we have used this atlas for surgical planning, model driven segmentation, and teaching.. Results: We present here the application of the atlas for visualization in surgical planning, for model driven segmentation, and for the teaching of neuroanatomy.. The atlas holds a major promise as a template for model driven segmentation.. The second uses surface models and standard graphics hardware acceleration.. The third approach uses a field of precalculated renderings to allow some form of interactivity when no hardware-accelerated rendering for surface models is available.. Surface models for hardware-accelerated rendering on workstation In order to generate surface models of sufficient quality from the individual binary labels, it was necessary to develop a processing pipeline.. Then we generated surface models, using either the dividing cubes or the marching cubes algorithm (Cline et al. , Lorensen et al. ).

Models
Abstract Motivated by the test data sets of ISPRS WG III/3 on image understanding we investigate the feasibility of building extraction using high-resolution Digital Surface Models (DSM) as input data, which do not only contain information about the topographic surface like Digital Elevation Models (DEM), but also information about the buildings.. The steps of the proposed procedure increasingly use explicit domain knowledge, specifically geometric constraints in the form of parametric and prismatic building models.. The reconstruction of the prismatic models and the selection of the models are based on the principle of Minimum Description Length (MDL).. The main extensions of this contribution consists of the automatic selection of the model for the reconstruction of buildings.. This selection is based on the principle of Minimum Description Length (MDL), as well as the reconstruction of prismatic building models.. Digital Hammurabi
News The Project This video illustrates the scanning action of the current laboratory model of the 3D surface scanner we have invented.. We have developed a virtual 3D surface scanner that takes a 3D model and "scans" it in one pass, leaving, much as a real scanner would, holes in the data.. Automated unwrapping and flattening of 3D models of cuneiform tablets - essentially mapping them onto 2D planes - will be useful for representing cuneiform tablets in traditional print media.. Digital Hammurabi is a originating at the aimed at scanning, visualizing, and publishing very high resolution, three dimensional models of cuneiform tablets and at producing an international standard computer encoding for cuneiform text.. They can generate accurate 3D plastic models of tablets.
Photogrammetry
. This development has created a revolution in our ability to create three dimensional surface models and other derived products such as orthophotographs.. Digital Surface Model (DSM) of Cape Chiniak, AK NGS is investigating methods in which to use these capabilities in the production of our shoreline manuscripts and airport obstruction charts.. This image shows a 600 meter by 1000 meter digital surface model (DSM) of Cape Chiniak, Alaska, generated using digital photogrammetry.
LIDAR SYSTEMS Airbone Laserscanning DSM DTM Digital Terrain Model Digital Surface Model
. To be able to generate a digital model of the topography, it is also necessary to accurately record the position and altitude of the aircraft, as well as the angle of every emitted measuring beam.. The high density of measuring points and their uniform distribution are decisive for the high accuracy of the elevation model.. A Digital Surface Model is generated by the selection of the first echo.. The last echos are the starting point for generating the Digital Terrain Model .. Laserscanning is highly cost-effective in this connection because the processing sequence of the data can be very largely automated, from the acquisition in flight, through the evaluation, all the way to the end product of the elevation model.

The Digital Michelangelo Project Archive of 3D Models
The Digital Michelangelo Project Archive of 3D Models Important notice: Before applying for a license to download this data, read the instructions carefully, including the section on who may apply.. Also, non-programmers should be aware that these models contain millions of polygons each, and therefore cannot be manipulated using today's commercial software packages.. One of the original aims of this digitization project was to create an archive of unusually large and detailed 3D scanned models for use by computer scientists, artists, art historians, and archeologists.. However, as we have reported in our and , building these 3D models has proven more difficult than we expected.. To date we have produced a good model of at 0.29mm and decent models of the at 1mm and 2mm.. Our models of the other statues we scanned are distinctly inferior to these.. Although our archive is incomplete, we have decided to make our models and our entire corpus of raw range data available to the scholarly community, with the hope it will spur other researchers to address the problems we have faced.
Digital Forma Urbis Romae Project
. In order to test this idea, we need 3D geometric models of every fragment of the map.. The goals of the Digital Forma Urbis Romae Project are threefold: to assemble our raw range and color data into a set of 3D (polygon mesh) models and high-resolution (mosaiced) photographs - one for each of the 1, 186 fragments of the map, to develop new shape matching algorithms that are suitable for finding fits between 3D models whose surfaces are defined by polygon meshes, and to use these algorithms to try solving the puzzle of the Forma Urbis Romae.. Whether or not we succeed in solving the puzzle, one of the tangible results of this project will be a web-accessible relational database giving descriptions and bibliographic information about each fragment and including links to our 3D models and photographs.. Current status of the project As of June 2005, we have assembled 3D models for all of the fragments, representing about 8 billion polygons, we have built a database giving scholars full access to these models, and we have created a separate database that gives the general public viewing access to the models.

. Thursday, June 15, 2006 Sample Photomapping in Google Earth We have placed online a first draft output using our in-house software to obtain accurate height/facade data from photographic modelling.. Using a camera calibrated algorithm we can ensure accurate placing of windows/doors etc to rapidly create city models. With the beta version of Google Earth, these can then be easily imported and viewed.. posted by Smithee at (Click timestamp for Permanent Link Location) | Wednesday, April 05, 2006 Rapid Architecture - Lidar Movie We are in the first stages of our work funded by to extend the London model to the cities extent.. Using data provided by InfoTerra and software written in-house by Chris Parker we have been able to import the data direct into a 3D Modelling package and render a sample movie.. Modelling utilising Raw Lidar data is a issue which is still in its early stages of research but it creates an interesting movie of the city as viewed by the scanner.. Both displayed a unique concept of structure and design while mixing functionality and a realisation of the need for sustainability. All of the models will be ported into Google Earth as soon as we have chance (the route from 3DMax to Google Earth is taking longer than planned at the moment).
