What is a “Digital Painting”? The difference between a “digital painting” (created on the computer) and a traditional oil is in the tools used.. Filters and masks have nothing to do with Cornelius' painting; the artist has complete control over the computer and only uses it to vary the amount of pigment and the type of brush.. One interesting aspect of the works is that the paintings are rather big, and may reach file-sizes up to 1, 5x2m (60”x78”) and beyond.. This means that they are actually painted in full-size just as in traditional painting, and the strokes are then printed out as-is, in their natural form, maintaining all the subtle colors and shades of the real stroke.. The paintings are then mounted and framed.
