Their current (2006) big lenses/small sensor options include the following cameras: Canon EOS 30D ($1400; 700g; introduced May 2006; ) Canon EOS 20D ($1050; 685g; introduced late 2004; same sensor, image processor, and image quality as the 30D; buy at amazon ) Canon Digital Rebel XT ($730; 485g; called "Canon EOS 350D" outside the U.S.; introduced early 2005; buy at amazon ) These bodies are very similar in performance with sensors that are about the same size and 8-megapixels in resolution.

The Rebel launched the consumer D-SLR revolution which now has many other camera manufacturers in the mix.. In early 2005 they launched a new Rebel -- the Digital Rebel XT (aka EOS-350D) -- which adds a higher resolution sensor, more features and better performance, all in a more compact body.. And with that in mind, let's begin our review of the Rebel XT! What's in the Box? There are two "kits" available for the Digital Rebel XT.. Unless you buy the Rebel XT lens kit, you'll probably need a lens or two as well.. The Rebel XT (along with the old Rebel and the 20D) supports Canon EF and EF-S lens mounts, for which there are lenses for every purpose.. There's the original from the Digital Rebel and EOS-20D kit (above left), the USM version of that (not sold in the US, apparently), and the "Mark II" version shown above right.

Canon Digital Rebel Review November 2003 Canon Digital Rebel review Canon have done it again.. First impressions may deceive but if the Canon Digital Rebel's good looks and advanced specifications are anything to go by, we are sure the 300D will be a winner from the start.. The Canon EOS 300D, or Canon Digital Rebel as it is called outside Europe, sports a 6, 3-megapixel CMOS sensor and comes complete with a brand new Canon EF-S 3.5-5.6 18-55mm lens.. Note that the new EF-S mount used on this Canon Digital Rebel is compatible with a range of over 50 presently available Canon EF lenses while their new 18-55mm lens is specifically designed for the 300D and will not fit any other Canon cameras - yet.. Canon Digital Rebel XT Review May 2005 Canon Digital Rebel XT review Since the Canon Digital Rebel / EOS-300D revolutionised the DSLR market in 2003, the company have been working hard to improve on what was and still is a very successful DSLR.. Now that Canon have released their new Digital Rebel XT - or EOS-350D as it is called in some markets - the tables have been turned once more and it will be interesting to see how the competition will react to this.. Apart from being smaller and lighter, build quality on the Digital rebel XT has been improved and several new features have been incorporated.. Using the camera The Canon Digital rebel XT is available in silver or in black (default).. If you plan to use the Rebel XT with longer and consequently heavier lenses, the relatively small hand grip may prove insufficient and you may find that the hard rubber finish on the grip doesn't help much here either.. To make sure that the rebel XT is for you, we would advise you to try it out for size before you buy one.

There is a review of the replacement, the ] Introduction The Canon Digital Rebel, also known as the Canon EOS 300D, was introduced in October 2003 and was the first digital SLR (DSLR) to break the $1000 barrier at its introduction price of $899.. Though it's a Rebel, which is the designation for Canon's most basic, entry level, cameras, it has many features you might only expect to find on more advanced models, such as depth-of-field preview, white balance bracketing and flash sync at 1/200.. This is the first part which deals with the Digital Rebel camera body in some detail.. The second part is a detailed look at the EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 lens which is sold as part of a kit with the Digital Rebel body, and the third part of the review is The Sensor The CMOS sensor is 22.7 x 15.1mm and can generate a 3072 x 2048 pixel image.. Since the sensor is smaller than a standard 35mm frame (36mm x 24mm), lenses will have a narrower field of view when mounted on a Digital Rebel than when mounted on a full frame 35mm camera.

In fact for me the Canon Rebel XT is on the verge of being too small.. The image below shows the Canon Digital Rebel XT compared to several other cameras: As you can see, the Rebel XT is significantly smaller than the EOS 20D.. The Digital Rebel is 4.98" x 3.71" x 2.63", the EOS 20D is 5.7" x 4.2" x 2.8".. The Canon Digital Rebel XT feels less "sturdy" than the Canon EOS 20D.. The illustration below gives you some idea of the relative sizes of the viewfinder image in the EOS-3, EOS 20D and Canon Rebel XT: Some people don't like small viewfinders, but personally I could live with it.. Operationally the major differences between the Rebel XT and the Canon 20D are in terms of convenience and ergonomics rather than functionality.. On the Canon Rebel XT it is done by going into the menu, selecting the appropriate page, scrolling down to the appropriate entry, hitting "set", selecting the amount of compensation using the scrolling buttons and hitting the "set " button again.

Many heads were turned to the Canon booth from the start, desperate for a glimpse of the EOS Digital Rebel XT.. The 8 megapixel Canon Digital Rebel XT single lens reflex camera (Kiss Digital 2e in Japan and EOS-350D in most of the rest of the world outside the US) is the successor to– but not a replacement for– the original 6.3 megapixel Rebel.. The original Rebel will remain available, dropping into a more affordable area of the consumer market, selling for $799 with the series I 18-55mm EF-S lens; however the original Rebel will no longer be offered as just a body.. The new Rebel outperforms the original in almost every respect: it's 15% smaller and 10% lighter, turns on faster, has a higher pop-up flash, reduced shutter lag (an important number often omitted from the spec sheets) to go along with an 8 megapixel CMOS sensor, and 1.7 million (20%) more pixels than its precursor, with a feature set closely resembling the prosumer EOS-20D.
