BARBAIOCCHI virtually born in 1997/1998 when some guys from Montale-Modena-Italy (Rolando, Marco, Vez, Simo, Moira, Devis crazyman, Minno, Puddu) join people from Modena (Trav, Katiuscia, Baccio) and invent a mixed (boys & girls) volley team called "TRIO MARMI" (playground: palestra Guarini) to play in the CSI volley mixed championship of Modena county (B division) reaching the 3rd place at the end of the game (but later we've been retroceded for the irregular registration of a silly boy called MarcoMedici).
One year later (1998/1999), for the defection of the gentle ladies, the brave guys from Montale decide to subscribe the Modena Amatori UISP championship (always playing as "visitors") and it's really in a tedious and rainy september day that the fac-totum Rolando has the amletic doubt on the name of the team…"what could be our name?? Roller bar?? It could be an idea…if Giorgio and Bruno (the barmen of Roller bar from Montale) give us the money…"…inauspiciously the sponsorship (?!?) fall in the water, so we need another name…a brief consult and Rolando choose "I BARBAIOCCHI" (originated from Paolino's sentence - in dialect - ..."t'è propia un barbaiòc!!").
The championship (for UISP we are "BAR Baiocchi") ends with an honorable 3rd place.

The next season (1999/2000) it's again BARBAIOCCHI - Amatori UISP (for the lack of subscriptions the championship is played between 6 teams in the counties of Modena and Bologna and we must go to play til Vado with drunk-session before the match and volley ground where - due to the dimension - you can step on the line when you serve…) and at the end we arrive "2".
In 2000/2001 the "BARBAIOCCHI-core" is back to the mixed tournament playing in the CSI B division with some girls from Maranello with the name Pol.Maranello (4th place of the division).
It's in 2001/2002 that BARBAIOCCHI reach the top: to the historic-group (Puddu, Trav, Devis, Marco, Vacca, Rolando) join some old friends (Lollo, Simo) and some new entries (Checca, Kutta, Marcello, Zelum).
The outcome is amazing: starting from the D division (the last), under Amendola's aegis (name: GS Amendola BARBAIOCCHI), they win the regular season without defeats and get into the playoffs where (apart from a debacle in Serramazzoni) they defeat all the opponents and become COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP 2001/2002
The rest is history…
