The origins of the Ordo are very ancient, founded even before the
confinement of the Emperor to the Golden Throne. Originally, it was created
to police the Inquisition but now it is charged with seeking out and
destroying the forces of Chaos.
Unlike the rest of the Inquisition, it has a rigid structure. It is made up
of 169 Masters who have the right to a direct audience with the Emperor,
much like the Adeptus Custodes. They also have power over the Master of the
Inquisition, and have been known to try and execute them. After that are the
Proctors and Proctors Minor, each of whom control a Chamber of the Ordo.
Below them are the ordinary Inquisitors. Working in conjunction with them
are the Chambers Theoretical and Historical, whose task is to research for
the Ordo Inquisitors in the field. They are generally the older generations
of Inquisitors, those who have become too infirm for field action.
Role
The Ordo has free will under the Emperor's Warrant. An Inquisitor can demand
anything and may answer all or no questions, the Imperial servent must
simply do as they are told, be they a peasant or a Space Marine Force
Commander. The most common request is for troops to aid the Inquisitor in
his quests. These troops hardly ever remain under his command after the
mission is complete and for the most part are killed for having the
knowledge of Chaos and Daemons, but posthumous honours are heaped upon those
who die helping an Inquisitor make safe the galaxy. All records of their
actions are eliminated and those who are too useful to kill are
mind-scrubbed and brainwashed while others are sent to labour camps or
executed.
The chief targets for the Ordo Malleus are Chaos covens, cults and the
Sensei. These are all deemed to be dangerous influences capable of
destabilising the Imperium.
The Daemonhunters
The Daemonhunters are an army list produced by Games Workshop to incorporate
the forces of the Grey Knights and other Odo Malleus servants into the game.
The Daemonhunters make use of specialised anti-Daemon weaponry and have some
of the best manufactured armour and weaponry in the Imperium. Unlike other
Space Marine Chapters, a large number of the Daemonhunters are psykers and
as such a large number of the Grey Knights have psychic hoods and other
equipment to emphasise their psychic gifts.
A common misconception is that the Deamonhunters and Grey Knights are the
same thing, when in fact the Grey Knights are a seperate Space Marine
Chapter recruited by the Inquisition in the Daemonhunters army. Quotations
It is better that one hundred innocents fall before the wrath of the
Emperor than one bows before the Daemon.
