The Shortlist 2002

The Hives, Aphex Twin, Doves, DJ Shadow and rapper Cee-Lo are amongst the ten final nominees for the second annual Shortlist Music Prize, which is to be decided next week.

Ten albums were selected for the US equivalent of the Mercury Music Prize, by a panel of 24 'Listmakers' including Iggy Pop, India.Arie, Alanis Morissette, Beck, Mos Def, Jill Scott, Albert Hammond Jr & Nick Valensi (The Strokes), and Damon Albarn.

The award for "artistic achievement in music" will be presented during a public ceremony in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Co-founder of the Shortlist, Tom Sarig, explained: "The Shortlist honours creative achievement across all genres of music, from the energetic punk of The Hives to the late-night grooves of Zero 7.

"This years panel of Listmakers were inspired by all sorts of experimentation, from the layered guitar soundscapes of the Flaming Lips to the lyrical diversity of rapper Cee-Lo, who is opening new doors for personal expression in hip hop.
